Next up: Jean Grey Death Seed (AoA)
Reason: X-terminate left things open ended and Jean is one of the best choices to be Apocalypse that any writer has made.
How the X-Men get there: Wolvie has daydreams about AoA Jean and Jean picks up these thoughts. When the last of the AoA team express a wish for help in checking on the AoA reality, Jean volunteers to accompany them. When they get there, they find AoA Jean has become Apocalypse and wants to spread her influence beyond this universe and the X-Men must stop her.
Differences: The AoA reality is made of a universe of Apocalypse propaganda. The Earth now has Metropolises built on the ruins of the battle between Apocalypse and the Celestials, from Celestial tech, Celestial Powers, Apocalypse own power, and even some bodies of the dead Celestials. The inhabitants are now composed of Mister Sinisters army of AoA Jean Grey’s and a select few who have survived the battle (and joined Apocalypse obviously) ‘children’. (Basically little Nate’s and Rachel’s and other offspring from different parent alongside Jeans genetics) Apocalypse Jean is obviously the ruler. Sinister is the advisor who is kept at arms length, but close enough for Apocalypse to keep an eye on. The Horsemen are composed of the Celeste Cuckoo as Pestilence (a clone child of Emma and Jean combined via what was leftover of Emma’s genetic material and Wolvie’s and Jamie Madroxes DNA; Celeste has all of her parents abilities heightened by Celestial technology when she was created to surpass your run-of-the-mill Jean Grey with a healing factor and duplication abilities more superior than Jamie’s), Galactus as Famine, Scott as War (I know this may seem like a step down from Galactus, but I’m taking into account the Celestial tech available to enhance him and his strategic mind), and Nightcrawler as Death (brought back from death; his powers are developed further to emulate a Horsemen with different abilities, like summoning a solidified brimstone horse, igniting the brimstone smelling smoke of his teleports, nearly immortal, he gains he Soul Sword somehow, can create a haze of his smoke without needing to teleport multiple times, etc.).
Lasting Effects: Unfortunately, this will partly be a Phoenix story. The stakes are high enough to need it. The damage won’t really travel into the 616 beyond the characters themselves. The AoA survivors stay where they are rather than going back to the 616. Jean will have to confront her feelings for Logan and whether she wants to do anything with them. Logan will have his Jean Grey troubles taking a first step into moving on (in what way depends on Jeans decision). Cable, Nate Grey, Rachel Summers, and Hope Summers will get an eye full of Grey children that could spark their curiosity of their limits and potential once more. (I doubt the characters will ever stop, but this is one of those situations that brings it up again) Scott will stay behind to pick up what Jean leaves behind temporarily, taking on more responsibility in the X-Men. (I highly doubt Cyclops would be involved into everything at the mansion like he used to. It will be a slow character development) Rachel will feel despair at seeing another world suffering much like the Days of Future Past timeline. Hope Summers feel the Phoenix flashes of the AoA timeline to rid the Death Seed and its host once more and will also feel more growth in her power once she leaves it all behind. Rachel and Jean will mentor her (like how it should have been in AvX). Nate will feel that same level despair that Rachel does, only it will be about his own identity. (Another thing that never really goes away, just as Logan) Jean, Logan, and Cable will do damage control on the sad puppies. One of the AoA villains makes it to the 616. (I’m thinking either Apocalypse Jean depowered a bit to match regular Apocalypses powers of the 616 in combination with Jeans powers rather than Celestial levels of power. Another suggestion would be AoA Nightcrawler in his Death form, ready to serve the real Apocalypse. Or both.)
