    Another Anthology ho boy...

Have you ever wondered what life is like on Utopia or what our Merry Mutants do on there down time well Nation-X tried to sum it up and gave us bupkis and now To serve and protect gives us the same thing...

    Plot

Long story short; days in the life of few X-Men

    My Opinion

So I walk in my LCS looking for things to catch my eye and I run across this; awesome cover, a misinterpreted flying Rogue and other X-Men in the awesome kick-ass pose we've been getting glimpse' of but then getting disappointment upon further reading the issue, well Viners this is no different. the issue starts with an Anole and Rockslide adventure (who I'd hardly call fan-favorites, more like 2 guys forced into your vision and since their apperances in the issues got money they assume we like them) , fighting crime for 2 or 3 weeks this the story was eh at best I laughed at their exchanges with several older members but it was just so ridiculous (where and why would you get a mustache on a floating rock really?) Finally it pointed to a cliffhanger with Mister Negative very lackluster. Then I skipped around namely the Cypher story (I don't care you can't get me to take him seriously as a hero maybe back then, but now where he was ressurected just for the sake of another uneeded ongoing where he'll more then likely be fodder by the end of the next event. really won't get me now). Finally I read through the whole Emma issue points on lovely art and Emma fan-service but once again many writers seem to try and capture that Emma in a bottle to no avail, nobody can really write Emma they way most did when I read this (compared to New X-Men) it just felt like a cheap imitation I don't know it just couldn't get me into her characterization.
Finally we get a Fantomex plot and by that time i was done. I'm really getting sick of these anthology stories, yeah it's a good way to keep up with the cancelled series leftovers, but when the issue is full of nothing but a phoned in filler plot and some really great art your cheating fans and I'm so sick of Editor-X letting it go through. Lowe know's with a hyped solict and an over hyped cover that tries to lull you in with promises of being different from the others we'll ante' up and empty our pockets, it's only different for me because I just had realized what it was and I didn't really care about how i spent my money. To Serve and Protect tries to muddle in the main idea of the story but really misses it's mark when it's over in 4 or 6 pages. So pick up if your an ultimate collector or if your favorite characters in it, other than that avoid and maybe then will Mr. Lowe understand what we want; melodrama, complex characters, and mutant powers. Just trying to boast a writer's partial return does nothing but hope for the old days.
