harleyquinn12's X-Men: Schism #1 - Schism, Part One review

    Off to a good start!

X-Men: Schism. Where do I start? So much to go through. I've always liked the X-Men. Being more of a DC guy, the X-Men got me into Marvel.I've never been a huge fan, but I figured this was a good place to jump back in.

Schism is supposed to be the split of the X-men. There's supposed to be a huge split between Wolverine and Cyclops that leads to the foundation of two splinter X-Men groups. In this issue, we get to see the relationship between Cyclops and Wolverine grow even more, the introduction of the series villain, and the Generation Hope kids are in there.

     What was good?
I enjoyed seeing Cyclops and Wolverine further their relationship in the issue, because i think when the split does come, there will be more emotional resonance. Wolverine's relationship with Idie of generation Hope was a nice moment. We also get to see the "breaking at the cracks" between some of the team members, such as Storm and Cyclops' disagreement at the end. Emma's three lines of dialogue in here were fantastic, and Aaron is doing a good job handling this group of characters. Pacheco's art was good. I absolutley love his Cyclops, and his Storm looks good. He does a good job conveying the emotion in the story. He does a great job with the Sentinel design as well.

    What was bad?
Some of the dialogue felt forced and static. "Just the usual", Wolverine says with arrows stuck in his chest. I think while the story itself is intriguing, the idea of the press confrence felt a bit strange. Yes, I know they used it in Astonishing, I just don't know why Wolverine even had to be there. I also thought Pacheco's Idie looked a bit strange, and the body types look weird.

Overall, the issue was good. I had a few complaints, but they were very nitpicky. i give it a 4, I say pick it up! You don't have to know about the whole X-men universe to pick it up.

Take note "Fear Itself", this is what an event should feel like! 0

After all the hype and all the buildup X-Men: Schism, the story that's supposed to change the very landscape of the X-World, has arrived. After reading the first issue, this story is already feeling weightier and more important than Marvel's flagship event "Fear Itself".   Jason Aaron's first issue is in many regards exactly what you would expect. It's a setup issue that puts all the pieces together for the greater story while enticing you with the series' potential. Aaron lays everthing out fo...

They start it off right! 0

Everything is great about this issue and I'm not just saying that because it's the start to an exciting new arc that I've been waiting for since I started seeing ads for it when I started reading X-Books a few months ago.  It starts off nice and slowly.  As you've seen in numerous previews, Scott and Logan are off to speak at a conference about arms control.  In the speech Sentinels take the place of what would usually be said about nuclear weapons.    Some plot points will seem unfamiliar to yo...
