A new origin
The story begins with bothers James Logan and Victor Creed killing their father when beating their mother, from that moment they will only have each other to survive. In the upcoming years they fight together in historic wars no matter the reason it was. Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Victor (Live Schrieber) join a special operations team led by colonel Stryker who uses mutants for special operations. During a special operation in Nigeria, Logan refuses to obey the others of Stryker when orders to kill innocents, to reveal the location of a secret material. Six years later Logan is working as a lumberjack and lives with a woman call Kayla Silverfox (Lynn Collins), one day he receives the visit of Stryker to warn him that somebody is killing the old team. When Kayla is murdered by Victor Logan fights him but fails, Stryker offers him to catch Victor offering him the best weapons, one of them is making him a powerful soldier using a secret component call Adamantium. The process of making Logan a powerful warrior is a success but brings unexpected results when he finds out what Stryker’s real intentions are.
The story is a new version about Logan’s origins and how he’s transformed into a powerful soldier, how his rivalry with Victor begins and how he fights in different conflicts during the years. Begin of the film is rush and unpleasant with the credits stopping the fighting sequences, we also spend too much time until we see how he receives the Adamantium, and the flashbacks during the process are annoying. The roles of Julia Blake and Max Culen (Heather and Travis Hudson) remind to uncle and aunt May in Spiderman, which is the only human touch in this film. Characters like Blob (Kevin Durand) or John Wraith (Will.i.am) are wasted when they could have been used more time. Even worse is the way they use Gambit (Taylor Kitsch) who only has a relative short time in the film, or Ryan Reynolds playing Wade Wilson, Deadpool. We have a “cameo” of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Emma Frost (Tahyna Tozzi) Cyclops and the presence of poker world champion Daniel Negreanu. The producers wanted to take advantage of the popularity of Wolverine and the success of the Three X-Men movies but Logan alone isn’t so interesting if he’s not with the rest of the group, the plot of the story isn’t very solid and is a little weak some moments, especially when the truth is revealed at the island where the mutants are kept for experiments. Let’s hope the next time they make a movie about X-Men or Wolverine is better.
