Back Issue Bin Review Archive #1: X-Men Supernovas

I have finally came along to getting to a series of review installments that flashback a few years in modern comics. I have been meaning to do this for a while and this is the first chance I have gotten to due to summer finally arriving so I hope this will give comic book lovers a chance to find some good stories and hidden gems. I am hoping that this will kind of follow in the shadow of Augie De Bliek Jr.'s Comicbookresource.com series Pipeline.

This issue caps off with stunning art by Chris Bachalo who draws Sabretooth (in a new, slick costume design) on the run from some unknown powerful foe. The dialogue is spot on by Mike Carey who characterizes Sabretooth as the scumbag he is.

In the next segment the panels fill with beautiful pencils, colors, and inks of an X-Men team getting trashed by minions of a man named 'Pan'. This subplot is snaked in to the current drama fluidly. As the action continues, a newly garbed Rogue defeats the pawns from the field only to discover with several others mutants beeing used in a creepy guinea pig experiment. All this while a O.N.E. Sentinel looms over the base of operations, These characters would then be taken back to the Mansion to be examined.

Switching settings again, two mysterious characters converse about Sabretooth saying that they cannot be found out. One of the characters pulls out a high-tech looking ball out and whispers to a girl that the X-Men did it.The town is the destroyed completely leaving only the little girl behind.

Back at the X-Mansion, Professor Xavier tries to reason with scott about Rogues power. Scott battles back in his own right leaving the professor all alone.

Jumping back to Sabretooth, two other unknown characters attack him while he is hiding out on a cliff in Arizona only to fail killing him while Sabretooth escapes.

Beast then appears in a scene working on one of the victims saved from the experiment. He states that it is a rogue Omega Sentinel used by Bastion. He is then interrupted by an explosion outside of the mansion. When outside the X-Men see that Sabretooth has arrived at the gates seeking shelter. Cannonball then proceeds to take him out and put him into custody with the help of Rogue.

On the last page, a news report flashes on to show the devastation of a town caused by the two mysterious people. The girl who was left states that the X-Men did it.

This issue was almost pitch perfect. Great art, pacing, dialogue, and importance all excelled in this issue. Get it.
