Jesse Aaronson has left both his friends in X-Force and his brother Christopher behind at the Summerfield Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in California, having been unable to choose a side in their conflict. Though he is some distance from the plant, he feels the first rumblings of earth tremors generated by the newly-revived Armageddon Man.
At the facility, Christopher (King Bedlam), who had engineered these events, tells his captive, Senator Owen Danville, that in order to prove to the government that he's serious about his threat to unleash the Armageddon Man if he and his Hellions are not paid one billion dollars, a demonstration of the mutant's devastating powers is in order. He then dons a psionic-amplifier through which he intends to control the Armageddon Man.
Unable to idly stand by any longer, Cannonball launches himself at the reawakened mutant, but to no effect. Then, the rest of X-Force go into action, taking on the Hellions. Siryn uses her sonic scream against King Bedlam, but Feral stops her by slashing Siryn's throat. Her teammates retaliate against their former ally, as Moonstar orders Sunspot to fly Siryn to the nearest hospital. Cannonball returns to tackle Magma as Domino decks Switch and Proudstar deals with Tarot. Bedlam then stops X-Force in their tracks by psychically scrambling their minds, but is thwarted when Jesse reappears and uses his disruptive powers to disable the psionic-amplifier.
No longer hampered by Bedlam's control, the Armageddon Man begins growing in size, and the disasters intensify along the west coast. Jesse and Bedlam fight, during which Bedlam shocks his brother by admitting he killed their parents, having caused the accident that claimed their lives.
Nearby, Moonstar asks Danville how he had stopped the Armageddon Man years ago as an Army commander. He tells her it was with a massive airstrike, but he was far less powerful back then. Tarot then tells her the mutant can only generate disaster while in contact with the ground. Bedlam rails at Tarot for betraying by giving his enemies this vital information, to which she replies that she'd pledged her life to him, but no one else's, and she cannot accept having millions of deaths on her conscience. Seeing the situation is no longer under his control, Bedlam makes his exit, accompanied by Tarot, Feral and Switch.
Magma, however, remains behind to assist X-Force in sealing off the ruptured reactor core that was damaged by the Armageddon Man. That allows the team to take on the giant. Cannonball carries Moonstar into the air toward him, where she uses both her psychic abilities and her newly-gained cosmic powers to daze and unbalance him. Using his prodigious strength, Proudstar launches the Armageddon Man upward off the ground and Cannonball administers a massive blow, slamming full-speed into the giant. The impact knocks the mutant unconscious, reduces his size back to normal, and causes the cataclysmic events to cease.
After securing the Armageddon Man, X-Force turn him over to Senator Danville, getting an assurance that he will be properly cared for, not just shut away. They then take Bedlam's truck and leave the plant. As they drive up the highway, they come upon Jesse, who had left on foot. Willing to give him another chance, they tell him to climb in.
Soon, they arrive at the hospital where Siryn (Theresa Rourke) was treated. Her doctor gives them the prognosis. Theresa's vocal cords were severely injured and she may never be able to speak again.
