The Facility Could Use A Refresher In "Evil Organization 101"

Action is just so much more enjoyable when there's actual meaning behind it. In the first issue, which was largely dominated by action, it's mostly just spectacle because we really don't know much about the story or characters. (That is unless, I assume, you've read Innocence Lost, which Target X is a sequel to, which I have not read. So bare with me.) Here, in issue 4, we have another action dominated entry in this series. This one works so much better than the first one though, and not because it looks better (it's actually a bit worse than the other in that regard, in my opinion). It's better because there's clear motivation and meaning behind the actions of the characters that we've had two issues leading up to this clearly explain. It makes for an overall wonderful issue.

I have a couple very minor complaints, though. The first is length. Because it's such an action heavy issue, it has little dialog and lots of big panels. As a result, this is a really quick read, even by comic book standards. I was surprised when I came to the end of the issue after what had seemingly been right after I turned the first page. However, it can hardly be counted as points against the creative team that I wanted more of the comic after I finished the issue.

Secondly, I kind of wonder about the intelligence of the organization that's after 23. They have her cornered in a house with Kimura, a woman whose skin is indestructible, who 23 can't hurt, at their disposal. So, logic would dictate that you send her in to retrieve the girl right away. But that's not what they do. Instead, they send in a couple dozen ill-equipped and squishy soldiers to take on a Wolverine clone! Really? Didn't they see X2: X-Men United? There was no way that wasn't going to end badly for them.

Anyway, another great issue here in a mini series that continues to get better with each issue.
