Shiver me timbers!
What's Good?
There are some interesting questions that popped in my head as I read this issue: Can Wolverine actually swim? How does Gambit get his hair to stick up like that? But besides that, Marjorie Liu takes the time to go back to making Laura more human in this issue. While this issue can be considered to be a filler before the Draken crossover, it has some good character development.
Sana Takeda really should do the artwork more often for X-23, because it is absolutely gorgeous. Every page just looks wonderful
to look at. I love how Laura looks emotionless almost throughout. I just wish Takeda's artwork would have been more suited for a bigger story than this single issue.
What's Bad?
Not exactly sure why this is part of Songs of the Orphan Child. I guess it's because it's a way to see the progress Laura has made so far (Yeah, I think I answered my own statement). This is more of a standalone issue. Also, I was disappointed that this issue didn't expand the whole pirate plot more as the cover and summary suggested. Again, the story is a bit bland mostly because this is a filler.
Overall: It's not that bad of filler issue. Takeda's artwork really made this issue more enjoyable. Again, I'm not really looking forward to Draken crossover, but I'll have to see where it leads.
