    Wonder Woman

Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8808 issues.

The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.

DCnU, for no other reason than it has my favorite version of the character in Azz's Wonder Woman run.

Azz's Diana is great because its actually a sensible interpretation of a young Wonder Woman. Moments like the one where she breaks away from Hades allows her character to truly shine.

As it is, I'll still pick DCU right now. Can't go wrong with classic Diana.

Absolutely this for me. Great minds think alike and I loved the Hades scenes with Diana too ;)

For the DCnU I will pick the Azz one but if we also take Johns and Soule's Wondy then the DCU Diana.

    LOL, LMFAO

At least DCU and DCnu fans can agree on one thing Johns is a twat when it comes to WW. I however have to admit he knocked it out the park with Shazam and Aquaman.

Azzarello's Wonder Woman is the best one yet, this DOES NOT include any other New52 version of Wonder Woman.

DCU with a caveat. Perez, Rucka and Simone DCU Wonder Woman are my preferred versions. Jiminez, Luke (despite her mopiness) and a couple of others as well. The Messner-Loebs, JMS, Picoult versions are pretty woeful.

Also, Joe Kelly's Wonder Woman in JLA. Man, Golden Perfect is underrated.

Ehhh, kind of. It certainly wasn't the worst run, but he kind of made Diana into a Mary Sue and she wasn't even really that present in a solid portion of his run. His run has the odd distinction of featuring some of my favorite WW moments and some of my most hated/disliked. Overall, I would say I tolerate his run but I'm hard pressed to say I actually LIKED it.

@toplel: And her reaction to being Zeus' daughter (as well as Azz's justification for the retcon) in issue 3 was the highlight of Azz's series for me until the last arc came along and blew all my thoughts out the water.

DCU. Though Azz's run is pretty great, DCU has too many stories to compare 23 issues to.

There are runs in the DCU that I consider required reading for all superhero fans, but I voted DCnU because I like what Azz has done in making her ties to Greek mythology more central/explicit. While I don't like everything he's done with the Amazons, I've enjoyed his run immensely. I also like the new52 costume a great deal, pants or no. I even liked the skirt costume from flashbacks.

Outside her solo title, I'm not a fan of her in the JL book or the Superman/Wonder Woman book. I did like her crossover with Batwoman a great deal. I've always preferred her in a solo title, though. She almost never gets proper consideration in an ensemble.

As for Elseworlds, my preferred Elseworlds Wonder Woman would probably by the one from DC: The New Frontier.

DCU all the way. Anyone and fan of DCnu clearly has poor taste and shouldn't bother reading Wonder Woman if there into carbon copies of the original.

I'll give the New 52 one thing. They did a great job with her costume. It hits all the marks of a proper Wonder Woman costume but manages to make it not look like an American flag anymore. I even liked the one with pants. Other then that I'm post crisis/pre-52 all the way. But to be fair I haven't read any of the pre crisis stuff.

What's happened in America that nobody likes our flag anymore? When did it become cool to be unpatriotic, unless you're in the military or a Republican? I don't get it, I'm a Pro-Black revolutionary that often talks about the hypocrisy of racist "Amerikkka", but I still love my country and it's iconography.

No the hell she wasn't, she was meant to be an American icon, hence the costume. Please don't get it twisted. I hate when people misappropriate stuff and try to change it to fit their world view.

@scorpio_cassadine: She hasn't been an American icon since the Golden Age? She's meant to represent the universal woman, she was an international diplomat for Themyscira, for god's sake.

I'm sorry, I disagree, once an American icon, always an American icon. My thing is I'm appalled by DC running away from all aspects of Wonder Woman that may be politically controversial.

I'm all about being inclusive, but you shouldn't retrofit something to appeal to the masses. That's pandering, and I feel like that's what's happening here. The move to England, the change in costume (which STILL looks like an American flag by the way, only more literally red, white and blue) and the casting of Gal Gadot are all attempts to distance Wonder Woman from the country that created her.

You can knock the emblems off a Buick and replace them with BMW's, but that won't make it a BMW. It's still a Buick, you've only vandalized it and hastened it's depreciation.
