razzatazz's Wonder Woman #90 - The Contest Begins! review

    In the beginning

One of the recurring themes throughout the history of Wonder Woman has been the calling of a new contest to decide who will represent the Amazons in Man’s World.  Usually these contests seem a bit contrived and aren’t really necessary except as a bit of filler, but this issue starts the only contest in the publication history (except I guess for the one which allowed Diana to go originally) which has some impact on not only Diana but on the DC universe as whole.  Here Diana returns finally to where her mother recounts the story of what happened to them while they were missing.  Diana in turn informs her mother of what has happened in the time when she has been gone, but Hippolyta does not seem pleased with her apparent lack of progress.  Diana also meets Artemis here for the first time (in fact her first appearance.)  The two discuss disparities between the two in upbringing and attitude.  Overall, this issue is good, it is starting off one of the most memorable arcs in Wonder Woman history.  Also though some don’t agree I am a big fan of the artwork.
