Another great issue by Hester
This issue is jam-packed full of action, featuring Wonder Woman versus three old Wonder Woman villains: Cheetah, Giganta, and Artemis. Now, Diana had been getting pretty cocky lately, having defeated the Dark Man, the Keres, the Huntsman, and the Minotaur. But, these three former Amazons have surely given her a run for her money. While it was great seeing these three beat the tar out of Wonder Woman, I didn't like how Artemis was given the spotlight out of the group. Anyone who isn't familiar with Wonder Woman who maybe just picks up the book will most likely be asking, "Who's Artemis?" The role of leader should've gone to Cheetah, especially considering that gorgeous variant cover by Alex Garner. Seriously, it's stunning.
We also get more insight into The Morrigan, and how they're not truly the big bads of the series. I'm interested to know who their "mistress" is, and what all is going on. We also get a surprise guest at the end of the issue, a longtime foe of Wonder Woman's who has set his sight on her.
The writing is excellent, as always. Hester continues to impress, though some of the dialogue seemed a bit off in various places. The art, however, was not quite as consistent as I would've hoped. It wasn't by any means bad, and it was actually quite similar to Kramer's art, but it didn't match up to the rest of the Odyssey. Cheetah, in particular, went from wearing a cheetah hood (likely inspired by Alex Ross's spectacular version of Cheetah) in the past few issues, to looking more like the regular WereCheetah version. It's especially off-putting if you get the variant cover, where she has the hood.
Anyway, as I've said before, if you're not reading Wonder Woman, READ IT NOW.
