A special anniversary issue of Wonder Woman that celebrates the character and introduces the new Wonder Woman with a special prologue. This is the debut of Wonder Woman's new costume.
So Then I Said...
I think I heard about Wonder Woman getting a new costume a couple of days before this issue came out. Intrigued, I bought this issue. As my first Wonder Woman comic, it served to introduce the character to me and give a little background on who she is and her place in the DC Universe. There's a bunch of mini-stories by several writers and artists and besides introducing me to Wonder Woman, it also introduced me to several writers/artists I had never read/seen before. The first story is by Gail Simone with art by George Perez. I liked the fight scene because it was yet another introduction for me to several of the female superheroes I had never heard of before. Simone did some good writing here with the short story and I liked the art by Perez (though the cover he did made Wonder Woman's face look a little weird).
Through out the issue, there are pin-ups by different artists. I won't list them all but I did particularly like Nicola Scott and Greg Horn (I did not like Jock's rendition). The issue ends with a prologue by J. Michael Straczynski and Don Kramer, which has Diana in the new costume and new back-history. Maybe because I didn't know anything about Wonder Woman before, I was able to enjoy this quite a bit. Don Kramer's art is pretty good, I don't see a problem with him taking on art duties for a while.
Bottom Line
Overall, I liked this issue. It was packed with a lot of different things (artists, writers, stories, etc.). As this is an anniversary issue, I can see why DC would try to take advantage and price it up significantly higher than a regular issue but there were 53 pages of content so that's pretty good, based on price per page. If you've never read Wonder Woman before, this is a good intro to her. If you want to see the new costume, this is where you can find it first. I've added Wonder Woman to my pull list so this issue has done it's job and as far as I'm concerned, it was Worth It.

OK, everyone, let's get this out of the way. When William Moulton Marston created this dashing warrior, it has gone (and it's still going) through some changes. The marvelous contributions of George Perez, Greg Rucka, and Gail Simone, the aberrations of William Messner-Loebs, the near-unpolitically correct blunder of Eric Luke, and now, the contributions of J. Michael Straczynski. But before JMS can put his hands on an iconic figure like Diana Prince, we are here rewarded with a collection of th...
I had not been a follower of Wonder Woman prior to George Perez's reboot back in the 80's. He being my favorite artist at the time, it was a no brainer. But I dropped the book when he left and didn't look back until Gail Simone took on the Amazon Princess. Now with this the. re-numbered, 600th issue we have and ending of her run and a beginning of JMS' S run. There is a light fun story written and drawn by Amanda Conner, a throw back story by Louise Simonson with art by Pansica, and a lead i...
