Getting a little tangled
Don't get me wrong, Wonder Woman is a great series right now. However, this issue shows we can't always be perfect. Tony Akins continues for his second issue on art duties, and while he does have some attractive moments (he definitely has talent), he's just a little too inconsistent and sloppy for my taste. His style fits ok with Cliff Chiang's work, but he's not a trained artist and you can tell with how facial depictions vary and Diana's physique gets strange at times. Story-wise I agree with the previous review. The story is confusing, and I think it's also not helped by how tricky Brian Azzarello's writing style is. He loves to knot together everyone's dialogue so it fits together in a weird way, but at the same time is full of double meanings and suggestions. When it works it's fantastic, but here it gets in the way of us understanding what's going on. And I'm still not convinced by the 'cockney accent' that he has given to the character Lennox. It kind of works, but as a proud Englishman it doesn't always run true when I read it. It took me a while to figure out that: 'Dee En Aye' meant DNA!!! Anyway, I can not wait for next issue when Chiang is back on art. It's going to be great.
