    Not a Lead Pipe Cinch

I have no idea what a lead pipe cinch is, but one of the villains keeps using the term to refer to a sure thing.   This issue is not a sure thing, but it is entertaining enough for the era.   There are a few plot inconsistencies.   In the first of three stories Diana frees King Arthur and Sir Lancelot from time machine traps and then with Steve Trevor she travels back in time to fight Merlin.   I always thought Merlin was King Arthur’s friend, but then I also didn’t know that the term “gadzooks” existed in 6 century England (King Arthur says it twice.)   The second story is weirder.   A race of invisible aliens invade earth and plan to take it over.     Diana discovers the aliens are visible in the ultraviolet spectrum and so upon returning from Paradise Island she crafts contact lenses from some material on the bottom of the ocean which will allow her to see in the ultraviolet spectrum.   Then she tricks the aliens into flying their spaceship into the ionosphere which immediately causes them to evaporate (whereas Wonder Woman just gets a sunburn.)   The third story deals with a young fan club member who thinks she has discovered Wonder Woman’s secret identity and Diana does all she can to convince her otherwise (this is a pretty common comic book plot line even in the modern era it occurs often enough.)   Overall the issue is on shaky ground for these factual errors, but it was fun enough to read.   There are also a couple of one page informative comics, one on the significance of knots in wedding ceremonies, and the other on different things that women do to be considered beautiful from around the world.
