Battle of Philosophies
No offence Meredith, but I don't really get how you are writing Diana lately and having her on this suppose mission to redefine war. Why would she need to redefine it. Eirene made good points there is logic behind it, about the philosophy about war and peace. Its true people with power can use peace to dominate their control (i.e Hitler was one example). War isn't a tool just used by the evil, yes it can have evil devices but it is also an opportunity for people to stand up and gain freedom. It is horrible but necessary... war in it's horrible way is what tells us what peace is. Without it I don't think we can know what peace is.
Diana's mission in this to redefine war is only going to kill her in the inside. As we saw the nature of war is killing her in the inside. I just don't understand why she just won't give it up. Her ideals and her title of what she embodies... isn't a fit for her. Perhaps it could be known that the thing that is causing Eirene to be what she is in this comic is Diana herself. Diana not doing her job is interrupting the balance between peace and war. Diana is very patronizing, stubborn in this story. Its just to confusing, on one hand you have her as the God of War, but on the other you have her acting as loving, compassionate, and wise Diana we all know and love. The part where she says that Ares would have known what she would be as God of War, only shows how naive she is. What if Diana is wrong, and Ares expected different from her or at least expected her to be changed by the title.
I am a Wonder Woman fan, after she killed Maxwell Lord (I did not agree with that) I sort started liking her when she realized that even taking a life will not save the world. That is the Wonder Woman I see one that learns from her past mistakes and shows a aura of humility, not this New 52 high and mighty, condescending, judging, and hypocritical one... she does not now her own actions could cause much damage then what she believes. It always sounds to me that Diana doesn't value freedom. If that where not true than Diana would know that War is in fact necessary because it ensures freedom.
My issue isn't the art, it's more the plot chosen for this issue, and how it reveals the character more. I think with Ares back Diana should just ditch the title and return to her original duties.
But besides my rant and how I look at Diana... art was good, and the chosen plot was still very interesting... irritating but interesting. Now let's see what will the result of this issue bring to the next one.
