Queen and Leaguer and God! Oh My!
I'm honestly very ill equipped to do this because I'm barely on volume 3 of this title, I'm also very tired and know very little about Wonder Woman (but then again the WW fanbase isn't really clear on what Wonder Woman should be). I did however buy the issue before this to get the jist of this arc.
Good
I'm enjoying the dueling of responsibilities and how much she's got on her plate. On the CV review they said they didn't like her lack of confidence, but I didn't see that in this issue (either I'm not seeing it or it's not in this issue). She does seems to be having trouble balancing these three major responsibilities, but that to me is normal, and she seems to wanna take things care of things her self.
The old Hag amazon and her supporters are what made this issue for me. They are pissed and Diana's new title isn't making things easy on them, especially since Ares man eating pets are proving to be a hassle for them. WHich is why the younger Amazons are probably listening to the old bat who is complaining more about how much Diana is straying from tradition (those are always really good villains) and how she's failing her sisters. Whoever these evil people are the Old Hag is working with have me intrigued. Not to much, not too little was given about them.
The dialogue to me is also a big better than Azz's. It matches the Amazon's much more. It does lack Azz's wit though.
I love how far that old hag was willing to go for the Amazon's. Even at the cost of a life and the *redacted*. Who this old hag is putting her faith in might shock you guys.
Bad
Wonder WOman does come off as a bit cold or mad at times but I chalk that up to the situation so I can't completely fault her. At best this is a minor gripe IMO.
There is a Superman/Wonder WOman moment (not that's not the bad thing), in the middle of the book where they are sparring... for reasons. Diana vents her frustration when Clark tries to console/ask her what's wrong? Seems really out of place and sort of a repeat of what happened last issue with Aquaman, but this time she's annoyed instead of depressed. Not only was this a repetition but they got the emotion mixed up for these (Superman=shoulder to cry on, Aquaman=dumb guy who talks to fish).
While I like the reveal, I kinda feel like I already know what's gonna happen. It's either gonna suck or become cliche. But I can forgive a cliche if the story telling is good and so far this issue made me forget the cliche possibilities. I hope Meredith Finch doesn't take the easy way out.
Middle
I tend not to grade the art unless the story is boring (like in Unchained). Even if art had some influence on how I rate, I couldn't give or take a point this issue. Finch is really good at drawing scenery, monsters and ugly ladies/demons(?). But Finch's Diana is still really inconsistent. Sometimes she was drawn like the gorgeous woman she is supposed to be, other times it felt like Chris Hanson was gonna walk into the room and tell me to take a seat.
Conclusion
I thought it was pretty cool. Don't get the hate. I'm an underdog type of guy and I wish her the best. I'm honestly not going to be reading this monthly, but that's cus (as stated in the OP) I trade wait.
