xkoenig's Wonder Woman #1 - The Visitation review

Feels like a movie. Definitely awesome.

It took me a long time to get around to picking this issue up. For some reason I was hesitant at the stripped-down look of the art which made everything look sparse and bare. But here I am having just bought and read WW #1 and wow! Fantastic start to the new series. Taking advantage of a fresh start, Azzarello puts Wonder Woman and the Greek mythology firmly in the real world and starts her off immediately called to action by a woman in distress. This comic definitely has a modern, movie-like quality to it. But the Greek gods and Diana's background seems to fit naturally and comfortably in it. Diana is tough and impatient, but clearly good and straight away sets out to help Zola, who was sent to her by Hermes. The art, yes, is sparse as I saw at first, but is very attractive and fits well with the sharp, efficient story-telling and graphic violence of the action scenes. So off we go with yet another new iteration of Wonder Woman, and it has begun extremely well.

Overview  Wonder Woman makes her debut into the new DCnU, reboot, revitalization, re... something. I didn't wish to get my hopes up for this series too much, so I really, really enjoyed this issue. This book was accessible, and it presented Wonder Woman as strong, proud, interesting and confident, and it had her being a hero and protecter of mortals. Which is why she is iconic yes? So two pluses.   Diana is also one of the characters that this tends to have make overs and retcon's a bit more tha...
