Does anyone else find it a little bit strange that comic book publishers are releasing cologne? It first started when we saw the announcement of a new fragrance being released by Marvel, inspired by the upcoming release of the Iron Man 2 movie. Marvel teamed up with Diesel and put their fragrance in a giant red fist, which to be honest, made me laugh. That's right, because when I think of a bottle in the shape of a giant red fist I instantly think "yes, this will make me smell delicious."
The announcement of Boom! Studios' IRREDEEMABLE inspired cologne followed soon afterward and then finally Top Cow's new fragrance line. So the first thing that came to my mind was, what the heck would they smell like and do I really want to smell like Tony Stark or the Witchblade? If (like me) you are wondering, then you will be pleased to know that Black Phoenix, the company that has teamed up with both Boom! and Top Cow to create the signature fragrances, have released descriptions of what we can expect these fragrances to smell like.
IRREDEEMABLE
- PLUTONIAN: Soapy cleanliness sullied by blood and ashes.
- BETTE NOIR: Benzoin, wild plum, smoky amber, bergamot, orange blossom, myrrh, and dark berries.
WITCH BLADE
- THE CURATOR: Mysterious herbs and ancient resins. Dust settled on ancient relics, both holy and malevolent.
- SARA PEZZINI: A hint of leather and an understated vintage musk layered over the scent of lightly perspiring, honey-dusted skin.
Wait, what? Honey-dusted skin? Blood and ashes? Okay. I want to smell like both those things (not really). Since Comic Vine will be hitting up Chicago this weekend for C2E2, we will have the opportunity to check out these fragrances first hand and we will be able to tell you guys for sure if their scents are true to the descriptions above. While I think that the idea of releasing a new fragrance like this is kind of interesting I am not sure if I will be trading my Armani for Witchblade any time soon. What do you guys think?
