The powers that be which secretly guide world events, The Scarlet Circle, are handing out cards that are altering reality into an old world order of their design. Witch Hunter has to save an artist whose hand has altered some of these cards and, in so doing, changed reality in a way not to The Scarlet Circle's liking. A backup story explores the hour before the young boy who will one day become Witch Hunter is burned at the stake, along with his mother, for being a witch.
