Captain Bintang`s Night-In-With-A-DVD Movie Review
1957, a Russian cargo plane crashes over Antarctica, carrying a mysterious cargo...
Present day, and US Marshal Carrie Stetko is based on a multi-national research base out in Antarctica, her six-month shift is coming to a close and she`s prepared for her flight back to the States...
However, a body has been spotted out on the ice. Flying out to investigate, Stetko is curious that the body is miles from nowhere, with no sub-zero weather kit and smashed as if from a fall. As Stetko investigates further, she`s involved in a series of violent incidents and more deaths take place. A serial killer in a fur-lined Parker and swinging an ice axe is on the loose...
Hmm, yeah...
Whiteout is a murder mystery with snow and ice. Gotta say this sort of murder investigation stuff doesn`t really rock my world. The movie doesn`t really grip me enough, it plods along, interspersed with flashbacks of Stetko trauma from a case in the States. There are interesting moments but I`d hardly call it thrilling. To be honest, I`d sort of lost track in the last twenty minutes or so, and (yawn!) I was waiting for the end credits to roll.
Makeup and effects department did a fine job on all the traumatized frozen bodies that pop up throughout. And Kate Beckinsale preparing for a shower will probably stick in my mind, but Whiteout wasn`t anything to rave about.
If there really is not much on, watch this. But don`t go to the pub first, as you`ll probably nod off on the sofa...
