    Review: Weird Worlds #1

Three stories about the DC characters Lobo, Garbage Man, and Tanga.

    The Good

Three well done stories in this issue. All of them are essentially an introduction to these characters, two of which are new. Lobo is really the pull for new readers since he's not incredibly well known, but has a decent cult following. All of these stories are strong, but Tanga was the one that really stood out. She's flying around the universe alone, just trying to find someone, anyone because the universe is pretty empty and boring. As with all of the stories, there is a mild humorous tone to it. This one was the most interesting and I liked the new character, who is a bit of a blabber-mouth. Garbage Man was my second favorite out of the stories. The best way to think of it is Captain America gone oh so wrong. Again, it was comical, but not "laugh out loud" funny. I really enjoyed the fact that Lobo is a bit more humorous than normal. Too many times I've seen this parody character become exactly what he is parodying. The humor is there, and the story was interesting.

    The Bad

While I personally REALLY liked this book as a first issue, there are quite a few problems. The Lobo and Garbage Man stories took place in the now, but jumped back into the past to tell the story of what just happened. While it worked decently for the Garbage Man story, it fell extremely flat for Lobo, and personally, I just do not care for Lobo. The other bigger problem I had was that there was way too much going on in this book. Each character got a 10 page story, and they just flew by. As soon as I started enjoying what I was reading, the story was over. I wouldn't mind paying another $1 a month for 9 or 12 pages more (3 or 4 more pages for each story), just so each stories pace can be a bit more drawn out.

The Verdict: 4/5 - Highly Recommended

    Perfect Jump-On Point

While it's not perfect, no first issue of a series is, but this book is one of the better first issues I've read in a long time. It's a fun turn-your-brain-off book, and we get introduced to two new DC characters with great potential. This is a quirky book and I can't wait to see how things progress, even for Lobo whom I loathe.

Three Characters in Search of an Exit 0

I was really really looking forward to this. I love a good anthology, and the retro b-sci-fi lover gobbled up the concept of something called Weird Worlds albeit for a limited time. The first story is the Lobo one, the only character of the three to not make a debut in this issue. The Lobo story is a run of the mill space bounty hunter affair, that I would have carried about much less had it not featured Lobo. The cliffhanger didn't do much in the way of getting me to bite my fingernails because...

Three Times the Weird, Three Times the Fun 0

Lobo The Good: The entire story is one giant 10 page joke.As the bounty hunter brags and brags about his battle, we, the reader, see the events in panels and can clearly pick out the discrepancies in his story. Just when you feel that the point has been made, he's a typical big mouthed 'all bark no bite' obnoxious 'that guy,' he gets his just desserts. Perfect timing. Usually, I could give or take with Lobo, but my god did I love him here. Every single drop of his dialogue oozed greatness. it wa...
