Proper Japanese Title: 週刊少年キング
Weekly manga magazine that ran from 1963-1982. It was the third weekly shonen magazine after Magazine and Sunday began in 1959. Eventually it was followed by Jump and Champion at the end of the decade. It was the lowest-seller among the five and is the only one of these big five to ever be cancelled while the others are still ongoing after more than fifty years.
As a result its legacy is less obvious in the present but it serialized many of shonen manga's most famous authors including some of their most enduring works (Cyborg 009, Ginga Tetsudo 999, Manga Michi, Wild 7, Chojin Locke). After its cancellation, it was revived for most of the 80's as the no-longer-weekly Shonen King before that too was ended and replaced with Young King (a seinen magazine that is still ongoing).
