In celebration of the magazine's 40th anniversary, dozens of series from the past were represented in various forms, including the cover (which was made in such a way that turning each page would reveal a slightly smaller cover representing a different decade).

Many characters appeared on the cover without appearing in the story and many of these same characters' respective series were elaborated on in the special two-part Kochikame feature that went through the history of Jump. Though there were other nods to the past such as a large double-sided poster by Yusuke Murata featuring characters from most major serials in the magazine's history, only characters from the covers are credited here and are as follows (the main cover features the only four characters from the other covers that were still in ongoing serials).
