Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) is a kingdom bordering South Africa and Mozambique. The cities of Lobamba and Mbabane serve as co-capitals. The kingdom emerged c. 1750 from Bantu-speaking people. It served as a British protectorate from c. 1894 to 1906 and a colony from 1906 to 1968, though maintaining its own royalty. Since 1968 it is fully independent.
The development of the country has a major setback in the wide spread of HIV and AIDS in its area. Almost 40% of the population is affected, the highest prevalence in the world.
On 19 April 2018, by order of King Mswati III, the nations name was change from Swaziland to the reconized name of Eswatini.
