    Origin

Bella Swan is a fairly plain teenager who after a move from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington encounters and falls into a world of vampires and werewolves, love and drama.

    Creation

Bella Swan was originally used in the Twilight Novel series, written by Stephenie Meyer, movie series followed later, with Bella played by actress Kristen Stewart, following on, a Graphic Novel adaptation written by Stephenie Meyer and Young Kim and with art by Young Kim.

    Character Evolution

Although beloved by the fans of the book series, once the character became known widespread across popular media, she came to be criticized for her lack of character development and for acting as a source of vicarious escapism. Nonetheless over the course of the novels in which she was the main protagonist, she did indeed undergo a fair amount of character development, from naive teenager to capable heroine.

    Major Story Arcs

Despite extensive exposure in other forms of media, the character has never developed as much interest in the comic book medium. Her sole serious exposure is as a graphic novel version of the first movie/novel. Her other appearances have generally been in comedic comics which lampoon the popularity of the series and the extreme dedication of some of the fans.

    Powers and Abilities

Bella possesses no superpowers per se, yet has certain abilities due to her proximity to vampires. She is able to receive certain empathic transmissions from Edward for instance. Otherwise she is an average teenage girl, who has proven she has a knack for survival.

About three things I was absolutely positive.

    First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him -- and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be -- that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

I knew we were both in mortal danger. Still, in that instant, I felt well. Whole. I could feel my hear racing in my chest, the blood pulsing hot and fast through my veins again. My lungs filled deep with the sweet scent that came off his skin. It was like there had never been any hole in my chest. I was perfect - not healed, but as if there has never been a wound in the first place.

In the dead silence, all the details suddenly fell into place for me with a burst of intuition.

Something Edward didn't want me to know.

Something that Jacob wouldn't have kept from me...

Something that had the Cullens and the wolves both in the woods moving in hazardous proximity to each other...

Something I'd been waiting for anyway.

Something I knew would happen again, as much as I might wish it never would.

It was never going to end, was it?

"Don't be afraid," I murmured, "We belong together."

I was abruptly overwhelmed by the truth of my own words.

This moment was so perfect, so right, there was no way to doubt it. His aura wrapped around me, holding me against him...

It felt like every nerve ending in my body was a live wire.

    "Forever," he agreed.
