Daniel Garret, like his late father, was a police officer. When he wasn't protecting the innocent behind the badge, he fought crime as the Blue Beetle.
Garret had no superpowers and wore chainmail armor when fighting as Blue Beetle. His superpowers, super-strength and invulnerability, were later gained through the use of Vitamin 2X, which was created by a scientist named Dr. Franz.
Dan continued to wear his chainmail costume even after the discovery of Vitamin 2X, returning to a secret room in Dr. Franz's office to don the costume and receive a dose of the drug.
