Visi-Lad is a character who first appeared in the DC Comics series Legion of Super-Heroes Annual Vol 3 #3, October 1987.

Character Evolution

Pre-Zero Hour

When he was a infant, Rhent Ustin was found in front of a child-care facility in Lehrton on Earth. Extensive research into his vision powers was inconclusive, but was determined to be from a mutation rather than any surgical tampering or genetic alteration.

Rhent was raised by the Ustins, foster parents who were curious about, but not frightened by his strange eyes. They taught him to control his strange powers, which include heat vision, hypnotic vision, telescopic vision, and microscopic vision. These powers come from using his four eyes in different combinations, and Rhent may have many more combinations and abilities that he has not discovered yet.

Rhent grew up hearing about the Legion of Super-Heroes and decided early on that he would become a member when he grew up. So when he was old enough, Rhent applied to and was accepted into the Legion Academy as Visi-Lad.

5-Year Gap, Five Years Later

Now a student of the Legion Academy as Visi-Lad he was fully dedicated to his academics and worked well with the rest o the student body. Now a part of a fresh new group of freshmen he would learn alongside teens such as Tiger Girl, R3Z7, Jagged, Xera, and Rush. After the so-called Five-Year Gap, the Legion Academy itself was shut down. However Visis-Lad and his fellow students would soon join the reopened and renamed United Planets Military Academy.

Powers and Abilities

Visi-Lad has the ocular abilities in various capacities. Due to the physiology of his four eyes the combination of the sets dictates which power the eyes obtain. He has shown the abilities of heat vision, telescopic vision, hypnotic vision, and microscopic vision. depending on the variations of his eyes used at the time than Visi-Lad may still be able to obtain different powers as yet seen.

Equipment and Paraphernalia

As a student of the Legion Academy Visi-lad was allowed the use of a Legion of Super-Heroes Flight Ring. The wearer could fly at speeds and elevation determined by the wearers willpower. Having a miniature computer in the ring it could also access a navigational compass, long distance communications array, and a signal devise.
