Unclench, Control.
Not Necessary.
In fact, it may confuse you.
Don't get me wrong, it was a tidy little self-contained story, but it left me confused as how it links in with the actual Villains For Hire mini-series. We see Misty Knight, as Control, of the good guys. It is nothing like what we have come to expect from the actual Villains for Hire mini. That said, it does end in the way we would expect - with Purple Man and Headhunter prepping for their version (the original version) of the "for Hire" idea.
Somehow everyone ("good guys" and "bad guys" alike) has state of the art surveillance. Surveillance that can see just about everything the reader sees, without it being known to any of the characters under watch. I can suspend disbelief for a lot of things, but this story depends on this level of unbelievable technical ability. Just like the "bad guys", you get a chance to see Silver Sable, Black Panther and Hellstorm in action.
The book had its ups and downs, but in the end it left me in a low point. I suggest skipping this book (unless you are collecting the series) and jumping in at Villains For Hire #1, which on its own is pretty good. As you will note, the art for this book is consistent with the series it was set to introduce - which happens to be art that I appreciate.
So, if you like the characters in this book or just want to collect this, another option would be to pick up the recently released trade, Point One II, which collects a number of 0.1 Marvel Issues, including this story.
