I agree that the art was sporadic at best. Not as excited by the series as I'd like to be. I too would like to see Bruce do more in the times he visits.

the art in this issue was extremely confusing as was the dialogue...I didn't know that Bruce was in this book until the very end

Just based on how often they were side tracked from the review I'm guessing that this can't be going that well :p

I think that they should have stuck with one artist for the entire series instead of a different artist for each issue....Andy Kubert should have done the entire series

I definitely had troubles figuring out who was talking, but by my second and third re-read (which is mandatory in a Morrison book) I had it down pat.

The story's really interesting. I dunno how I feel about the changing art, but the story's shaping up really nicely.

I'm a little confused why this Witch Hunter is coming before the Pirate. Is he a "Salem" style Witch Hunter, or a European style?
The whole Privateers style of pirating was in the 1600-1700s. The Salem Witch Hunts were late 1800s, thought Plymouth was colonized more 1620. Just seems like not a really dramatic time jump when compared to the stone age.

I was always curious how he was going to be traveling through time. That's why I made the joke in my 4koma of the Terminator style time travel.
I always thought the Pilgrims must of been on something. Who puts buckles on a hat? I could go on a  comparison of the differences between the Puritan and French settlers, but I'll spare you. lol

i thought the art was amazing....if you look closely you could tell who bruce is because the hat he wears makes a shadow over his eyes as if he's wearing a mask....it's genius!

For me, having a different artist on each issue is like have a different writer telling different chapters of a story...

I thought the art was for the most part awesome. That part with the monster was beautiful and all the stuff at the vanishing point was insane.  Can you honestly look at that "time dude" and that time grid and say it doesn't look cool. Plus Bruce and the bad guy are supposed to look similar, they're related.

The Return of Bruce Wayne FTW!
Despite the moments of confusion sometimes, i liked the art, and is interesting to see the difference in the art resembles de differences in the time period bruce is going through, and like Babs said, the depiction of Superman here is one we don't often see, but it's a very proper part of him, being the alien with the knowlege of the 23 known galaxies, its not just a good guy with superpowers. and the reaction of the guys was cool also.

Over all it wasn't a bad read.  I do have to agree with a lot of people though, sometimes the read can get a bit confusing.  This series is turning out to be no where as exciting as I was hoping for, however, it is what it is and there is nothing wrong with that.

It took me half the book to figure out Bruce was the pilgrim guy with the little leather bags tied to the strap across his chest. That was the only obvious difference between Bruce and Mordecai.

Just go back and watch last week's "Secret Avengers #1" review.  To say that this book is better than that?

Humanstruggle has a point.  See "Secret Avengers #1" review and "Flash Rebirth #1" review.

Apparently "different tastes" however means that if it happens in one particular DC book then it's good, but if that same thing happens in a Marvel book then it's just so-so.

I'm just a little bit confused about the vanishing point computer dude. I have an idea but it's not definite in my mind.

For the confused: The witch hunter with the modern speech patterns, penchant for deductive reasoning and aversion to execution? I think it's fair to say that one is Bruce.

I think the "lost in the stream of time" plot is nice, but they are abusing the bat symbol franchise a lot, if you know what I mean.

I thought the art in this pretty cool, the style very much suited the era. And the story in this was intriguing, and I liked the issue better than the cave men one.

Spoiler:

And the whole Wayne family curse at the end with the "till the end of time" motif ... it gave me chills :P

i loved Morrison's writing style, but i have to agree by the fact that the characters were hard to follow, like who was Bruce?Sometimes it took awhile to figure out which character he was, which was distracting from the overall story. and i had no problem with the artwork.

Man, seeing that artwork is making me really cringe at what Batman & Robin issue #13-15 is going to look like.  Hopefully, it doesn't just completely turn me off like Cameron Stewart's work on #7-9 did.

So...should I pick up The Return of Bruce Wayne stuff?  You guys know I'm not a huge Bruce fan, but at the same time...this stuff seems kind of important.

Cameron Stewart's art was amazing. Don't trash it! But I do agree with  you though about the art in the next B&R arc.

I think you two should just do debates about comic issues or just have an open fourm. Your tangents are so interesting/entertaining it'd be interesting to see what you guys would talk about.

The similarity in appearance underscores the connection between the characters of Melius and Batman.

Bruce Wayne is a descendant of Melius

You see traces of Batman in Melius when he argues with Bruce Wayne regarding witches. He uses "evidence" and poses in a menacing way that is evocative of Batman.  Also, Melius is a dogmatic and vengeful detective, which is an aspect of Batman without Bruce's capacity for compassion. The confusing similarity between Bruce and Melius is a brilliant and revealing move.

Honestly , i dont like a huge disconnect btw morrison and frazer (didnt feel the synergy between morrison's writing style to frazer's artwork)...  it also seems like a warren ellis concept with a morrison twist. Dislike for now? Morrison is very hit or miss : T

so i havent been reading this series, does he die and get reborin in each issue in to a new time stream or does he have to accomplish certain goals before he can move on or does he just randomly jump thru time (like Steve Rogers)
