Venom
Character » Venom appears in 2798 issues.
The Venom symbiote originally bonded with Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, during his adventure in the first Secret Wars on the Beyonder's planet called Battleworld. Initially, he thought the symbiote was just an attire. However, upon his discovery, he rejected it because he realized that it was sentient. Since then, the symbiote has bonded with several other hosts, including Eddie Brock, Angelo Fortunato, Flash Thompson, Ann Weying, and even Carol Danvers. Currently, its host is Eddie Brock.
Venom Gets A New Series AND A New Look
Today Marvel has announced that this new Venom will have a new ongoing series by Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force) and Tony Moore (Frankencastle). The series is said to have major repercussions for Spider-Man.
While we are left wondering who this new Venom will be, Marvel has offered a new clue that goes along with one of the candidates I named yesterday. If my theory is correct, it looks like this new Venom will indeed be someone that Peter Parker knows. And wait until you see the look that Venom will have.
== TEASER ==
Taking Venom in a new direction, the government now has control over the symbiote. Venom will be their own Spider-Man. He will have a new look and a new mission--eliminate threats to America as a covert agent.
It looks like the government thinks they'll actually be able to control the symbiote. What do you think the chances of that happening are?
Who will be the man behind the mask? A lot of people were betting on Peter's former roomate Vin Gonzalez but I think with the government connection, it's gotta be John Jameson. It might be far-fetched but how ironic would it be for J. Jonah Jameson's own son to become a wall-crawler?
Venom #1 will be on sale in March. Joe Quesada will provide the cover and Paulo Siqueira will do a variant cover. Place your bets now (not that I condone gambling), who will the new Venom be? What do you think of his new look?
Here's one more image put out by Marvel.
That sort of looks more similar to the Punisher. What's Frank Castle doing these days?
Why would the government need their own Spider-man when he's in the Avengers? If this is going to be government controlled. That tells us a few things. It's obvious they can't trust the symbiote. So, it would be irrational to also give it to someone they can't trust. Which tells us they trust the user for some reason. Though, it must be someone who the symbiote accepts as well. That narrows down the field.
Though, I don't see why this warrants a separate series.
As for why a separate series, Amazing Spider-Man deals with Spider-Man and Venom will deal with Venom.
It just seems that Marvel hands out series like candy to characters that really aren't interesting enough to warrant it.
I'm stealing that armored venom for my DCUO hero...cyke
It looks like a fresh take on a Venom who has been VERY boring the last 10 years
what I don't get from these teaser images is that the first and third (the hulked out versions) don't look like anything we haven't seen from the Brock and Gargan days. On the other hand the second, punisher-esque images looks very much in-line with the information being reported about government control.
the thing about the symbiote itself is that other than it's need to feed and bond with a host it doesn't have any real emotion or mindset to it....it's only real emotion being a love/hate relationship with Spiderman. So if it was bonded to someone with a moral compass and sound mind like John Jameson, then it could probably be kept under government control as John's mind is stable and he wants to work for the government. The armored look is simply how John wants the symbiote to appear since we already know it can mimic clothing and such. That I think will be the coolest aspect of the new Venom series is John using the suit more to be a spy and infiltrate the bases and areas of his targets (very Sam Fisher or Assassin's Creed like) rather than using the brute strength Venom is normally used for.
Since this is the Age of Heroes it is nice to see an old villain getting a new look so I'm interested in picking this one up.
Ok, wow. that first image looks TERRIBLE. The right arm, the massive underbite, ugh the artist subscribing to the Rob Liefeld theory of anatomy (see photo). I'm all for giving extraterrestrial or supernatural characters a look that is NOT normal, but , that just looks off. As for the second picture, why would venom need to have body armor? Is it supposed to be like the symbiote's "camouflage" where it can look like clothing?
What I don't get is why "the government" would need " their own Spider-Man." I always saw the Avengers as part of SHIELD, and SHIELD is part of the government. Spiderman is an Avenger, therefore, the government can tell him what to do, via the transitive property. (I swear I'm not really that nerdy, it was a joke.)
As for John Jameson, that makes sense, but isn't he a werewolf (I checked his page, and it doesn't say he stopped being a werewolf)? How would THAT work? Last thing I remember reading with him, he was a werewolf and was living on the moon or something.
Am I the only one one who thinks Hulked out Venom looks cool? I mean... He's supposed to be scary, right?
I'm dying to see the interiors. I really really dig Tony Moore's art. Say what you will about Frankencastle but his stuff was great. Same on Victorian Undead and the first six issues of The Walking Dead.
Skeptimistic to say the least, but we'll have to see how this turns out. The government controlling Venom will definitely not last but it's an interesting enough idea.
" I'm dying to see the interiors. I really really dig Tony Moore's art. Say what you will about Frankencastle but his stuff was great. Same on Victorian Undead and the first six issues of The Walking Dead. "HERE HERE!!!!!!
Judging by how that image look, I would say Jameson could be the likely candidate. Or maybe they can be two different Venoms?
I can see Jameson go for the Secret Avengers in the future if it is him.
" that armored look is sick but it's not Venom "agreed. but i think he is only it half the time.
its definately vin gonzalez. and im a little hopeful since rick remmender is one of the best writers out there. still, i think this is a bad idea.
and im stickin with my guess that while the new venom is vin, eddie will stay anti-venom and mac will be carnage or something like it.
I do like how they're making him look more like Ultimate Venom (a well designed character IMO) and how they got rid of what I'll call the eye within an eye look that Angelo Fortunato and Mac Gargan both had. (He's not an Orca whale, the white part of the head is his eye. You don't need to give him a human shaped eye inside it. You don't give him a human mouth inside the symbiote mouth, do you?)
" wow so DAMN awsome, im so pSyched for this book, Venom rocks!!! "venom used to rock. but i really think marvel should have given mac-venom a chance.
That Covert-Agent suit looks awesome.
Edit: And now I agree that it is probably going to be John Jameson.
" @danhimself said:you do know that Gargan is getting a new Scorpion suit right?" that armored look is sick but it's not Venom "agreed. but i think he is only it half the time. its definately vin gonzalez. and im a little hopeful since rick remmender is one of the best writers out there. still, i think this is a bad idea. and im stickin with my guess that while the new venom is vin, eddie will stay anti-venom and mac will be carnage or something like it. "
I think he should be half the time someone who works for the government and half a psychotic serial killer
Could be Flash Thompson; he has some military background. Then there's also John Jameson, as others have pointed out.
In the early days, what I used to like about Venom was that he was so awesome and freakin' powerful that even spider-man himself was afraid of facing him. Then he got his solo job as the "lethal protector" which was actually pretty good, takin a twisted mentality and using it for "doing good". Then as the years passed Marvel made him look so different that they had to resort to Eddie Brock donating the symbiote. Mac Gargan was showing us the fearful side of the symbiote, the "realistic" side of being bonded with an alien organism (although I always hated the eye inside the white eye look). Now, it seems that the symbiote will work for the government... but I think it has it's own agenda...
The original Venom... Eddie Brock Venom died a long time ago... and no host will be as good as him. Long live Eddie Brock Venom...
It sounds like Slott and Whacker went to Remender to write Venom with who would have the symbiote, so that might be a big tell that it is Frank Castle. Powering up and trying to control a vigilante doesn't really make much sense. Would Frank even want to be a monster again so quickly? Plus Punisher has been pimped in Heroes for Hire.
Remender also mentioned the character will juggle the dual identity from his loved ones. Jameson would make sense but it does not seem like that would be a huge deal for him.
That leaves Flash, who has recently has rekindled with Betty Brant. Explains why Venom is Hulked out with chicken legs!
" @WWAJfan said:" wow so DAMN awsome, im so pSyched for this book, Venom rocks!!! "venom used to rock. but i really think marvel should have given mac-venom a chance. "
They did. He sucked. Time to move on :)
"Could be Flash Thompson; he has some military background. Then there's also John Jameson, as others have pointed out. "
I can SO see a scene of someone walking Flash into a room and being like, "Here's your second chance, Thompson".... and then a horrific disgusting splash of the symbiote making a monstrous pose inside a glass chamber. Win.
It's gonna be interesting to see where they will go with this but off the bat, it's not really doing anything for me, just a step further away from the original.
@The Hobgoblin: Flash Thompson would be very interesting since he lost his legs. The Symbiote could definitely 'make' legs for him.
"Its Eddie Brock who wants to bet "
He's Anti-Venom. So no, it's not Eddie. Besides, Eddie was a Government Agent as Venom once. It didn't turn out well.
(Thermite bomb surgically implanted in his chest, and all...)
Easily. Anyone remember Hybrid?
Aw dang it, I just guessed John Jameson before I read this. I thought I was going to be the first person to guess that, but oh well, at least this means I won't be alone if I'm wrong :P
" this reminds me when venom had to wear the scorpion suit, now the symbiote is getting covered by black ops armor wored by his new host, but still eventually the symbiote will try to take control and get all montrous. "
THAT PICTURE IS SO EPIC.
" Judging by how that image look, I would say Jameson could be the likely candidate. Or maybe they can be two different Venoms? I can see Jameson go for the Secret Avengers in the future if it is him. "I agree. There's definitely a Bucky Barnes sort of look to him. Plus, there should always be a Spider-man on the Avengers.
" @G-Man:yeah bnd writers dont remember anything lol.
Easily. Anyone remember Hybrid?
"
also, they said somewhere that one of the four symbiotes in hybrid left and bonded to someone else. i wonder if we'll bet more on that. @darkcloakx said:
" venom is back ! welcome. "mac venom was awesome
" @Violet-Eyed Dragon said:yeah but i bet it will be a symbiotic, possibly carnage-related suit." @danhimself said:you do know that Gargan is getting a new Scorpion suit right?
