V with A Murder of Crows

In my review for issue #6 I mentioned Eric Trautmann and I have been chatting and I almost feel like I have had an inside track.  I'll try to be unbiased in this review, since I'll be honest as cool as the "Crow sisters" looked I felt that it should of been more clear who these three are.  I don't read Japanese and it is not always clear what those semiotics mean, I felt that hurt the clarity of the story, it however increase the layers in which things are happening.  I find it interesting and suspenseful not knowing all he information, even if it is clearly there.

The last issue called this arc "A Murder of Crows" and it is a great play on words indeed.  This arc features three villains which came to Eric in a dream... well more of a nightmare.  The Crow Sisters (I looked up in future solicits they are called The Kerasu Shimei) are three women who it seems feed on sins.  These sins collect and give them momentum in their unholy quest.  Some of the stuff I learned about the sisters I had to research outside of this issue and this is where this issue loses a little bit of star rating for me, since it will likely work well in the overall arc it is not the strongest introduction to the new ladies. These new villains seem really cool and I think that a three issue arc might be two short to showcase these character's potential.  Eric works in metatext with these characters, he told me that the three sister's masks represent Delight, Despair and Rage.  These three ladies can give an interesting trinity if all works out nicely.  Delight and Despair are polar opposites, while Rage is closer to either of the too, yet equally distant.  With the sisters small appearances so far, we have yet to see their temperaments.  I really look forward if Eric will split the three's voices strong enough that the pieces of the whole are as strong separate as together.

I have enjoyed every issue of Vampirella so far and look forward to where her character will evolve.

To be honest this is the first issue of Vampirella that I have ever read, and I read it in part because of its somewhat free nature as it was released as part of of an attempt by the publisher to get people interested in the series after the release of the first trade paper back.  Although different in tone and in context from the DC title which I sometimes read (I, Vampire) it is still inherently based around the supernatural in general and vampires in specific so it starts off not being my fav...
