More Buffy Than Blade
I was a few pages into this comic before I realised what I was actually reading. I was thinking `what a load of corny nonsense, surely this can`t be serious?`. And that`s just it - it isn`t. Vampire, PA is a tongue-in-cheek poke at vampires, it`s light and easy-going. Imagine a TV sit-com or an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer then add your own canned laughter.
The comic starts immediately after events in an earlier story that I know nothing about, but we do get a rough recap of sorts...
Dean Marklin is a ventilation and air conditioning repairman by day and vampire hunter by night. It seems that he`s discovered a nest of vampires have taken up residence in an old movie theater in his hometown, Pittsburgh...
"Those vampire bastards are in my favourite old time movie theater..." snarls Dean, strapping a tank of holy water to his back, "...and that cannot be allowed to stand. And they need killin`" and marches inside clutching a spray-pump...
There is nothing scary or shocking about this issue, you know no harm is going to come to Dean and friends and the dirty bloodsuckers explode in puffs of ash. The vampires in this comic are saucy, wise-cracking sirens dressed up like Elvira in stockings and their human slaves they call `Renfields` (get it Dracula fans?) - and that`s about the size of the humour here.
Not really my sort of thing.
If you want something jokey try this, if you`re after something grimmer try Fevre Dream or Baltimore: The Plague Ships or one of the other stream of vampire comics out now...
