X-men take the blame
I was one of the many people who was excited to buy this issue when i first saw the idea. After all, i love Havok, Rogue, and Scarlet Witch. It brings up a great question. Why aren't more x-men involved with the avengers? Simple question, great way to bring about a new team and story line.
Breakdown: Aftermath of big war between Avengers and X-men. An icon and messiah figure for mutant-kind, Charles Xavier, is dead and being honored at his funeral. Captain America wonders if he did enough for mutant-kind and decides he needs to form an Avenger team with mutants on it to help mutant-kind's image in the eyes of the public.
Artwork: I like Cassaday's style. I see a personality in each person's face and i like the costumes.
So what's good: I like the idea of merging avengers with more mutants. This cast of characters makes for a very interesting blend of personalities.
What annoys me: This whole issue feels like apology for anyone who was cheering for the avengers in A v X. Then one of my favorites characters, Havok, criticizes Cyclops when he wasn't willing to make any decisions himself. You don't get to point the finger when you weren't willing to choose a direction. Infuriating. What's worse is Havok has always kind of been this way, and this has taken off a little of his veneer lately.
The story is slow and plods, but to be fair it does set up some interesting possibilities.
Scarlet Witch says she takes the responsibility without ever sounding like she's repentant. Her and Rogue spar both verbally and physically. Of course no one is ever to blame and the bad guys come in and interrupt before anything can be resolved among themselves. Blah.
Wrap it up: I love Remender, I love his work, I want to like this, but I might be a little reticent to get the next one.
