    I'm Regretting Hating Spider-Man Requiem

You take what might be the best Ultimate X-Men artist and team him up with the writer that did more to piss me off in an 8-issue run than Jeph Loeb and Messiah War combined. Oh, this should be fun.

I'll be honest with everyone, I didn't buy this issue, I saw the preview pages on Marvel last week and thought it looked okay, but there was that little voice in the back of my head that said, "No Ryan, don't buy this!" And even as reviews were popping up online Tuesday and Wednesday morning I thought I should pick up simply to finish off the series, but I didn't buy this issue. I paged through and skimmed and didn't want to get ripped off for $4.

This issue is all about the X-Men burying their dead and that's one of the first problems with the issue, they confirms the one death that was left hanging in the X-Men side of the Ultimate Universe, Havok. And it only reminded me how many of them died and how much I didn't like the fact that they killed characters I would have liked to have seen in the next "chapter" of the Ultimate Universe.

The X-Men are really out of character in this issue too, we don't get the family aspect of the team, just some awkward ending that is beautifully drawn by Oliver. Iceman destroys the X-Mansion, which seems rather blunt and now all that is left is a mass grave for all those lost in the Ultimatum Wave. Kitty retrieves Wolverine's hand, which that scene almost sold me on buying this issue and confirms that all of Wolverine's cells are destroyed by Magneto. I still don't buy that Logan's not coming back.

My end point is I think we reset Ultimate X-Men to Issue 92 (part 3 of 4 on Apocalypse) and let Kirkman or Brian K. Vaughan finish this book right.

    PASS ON THIS ISSUE
