    Ultimate X-men #11

The book opens in Iraq where we see a military convoy being shelled. A young Nick Fury is radioing to the base that the bombardment opened the adamantium cage. We assume corectly, that they were transporting Wolverine somewhere. Upon escape, Wolverine goes into a rage and kills every one except for an injured Nick Fury. Logan puts him on his shoulders, and carries him to the base where he is tranquilized.

This will be the best part of the book, and gives us a nice storyline that while it gives us insight into the relationship between Logan and Nick fury, truly serves little to no purpose to the story at large. This is proven in the next scene, where we see a modern day Nick Fury, and he says nothing important at all.

After a sweet and quiet scene where jean grey apologises to Wolverine, knowing now only some of what he went through. Wolverine assures her however ... everything is going to plan.

We then cut to John Wraith, who is talking to a panel of Generals including General Ross who has informed him of the proposed cutbacks in the weapon X program. After a short conversation Wraith makes his play, and using Charles Xavier ( now held captive and permanently in Cerebro ) to blow up the room they are in.

Okay .. I like this scene. Wraith is a serious villain here, Not the comic book over the top villain he has been portrayed as so far. He is shown to be dangerous and resourceful. Not the mustache twisting villain of the issues before. That being said, I think it is surprising how casually they kill off General Ross, a major character in the regular universe.

We join Wolverine and Sabretooth outside in the snow. Sabretooth says he has Wolverines personal files, but instead of using it to get Wolverine to do anything, Sabretooth lights it on fire. This prompts Wolverine to attack, but being tied up ... the battle is a short one, and Wolverine is taken down immediately.

The book ends with a splash page showing that the brotherhood arrived at Weapon X facilities, and they are there to help the X-men.

    Over all ....?

Not bad, better than the last issue, it has all the elements of the darkest hour being before the dawn. Granted there are holes in the plot, and the scene between Wolverine and Jean, while good ... just felt like thy had to remind us the X-men are being held there. As a single issue ... Well ...? It doesnt quite qork. Not enough back story to catch us up. However, as a part of the larger picture, it works just fine.
