Black Cat is back!
Black Cat returns.
Pros:
Maybe I'm still hungover on the streak Black Cat has been having lately (ASM, Amazing Spider-man presents: Black Cat), but it was nice to see Black Cat return in the Ultimate Universe even though her time was a flashback. Mysterio also makes a reappearance with a flashback as well. I am curious on what Black Cat wanted out of Kingpin's vault. I do like how Aunt May and Gwen have a somewhat touching moment. Ever since Aunt May found out that Peter is Spider-man, things have been a bit easier when it comes to relationships with other characters. She sees Gwen as a daughter and Gwen sees Aunt May like a mother she never had. Aunt May is like one of those cool moms you don't see often.
As much as I like David Lafuente's artwork for this series, I really like Sara Pichell's artwork this time around, and that means a lot coming from me. For those who have turn down the series because of Lafuente's art style, may rest easy a little as Pichell slowly moves away from his style. My favorite pages has to be the interactions with Black Cat and Mysterio. The way Mysterio's flames appear around his whole head just looks incredible along with his facial expressions.
Cons:
For those expecting Peter to start super hero training school in this issue, will be greatly disappointed as the topic only comes up once or twice. Other than the Black Cat and Mysterio encounter and the situation with Gwen is resolve somewhat, nothing really happens in this issue. A lot of usual talking from Bendis writing.
Overall: Wow, this issue was not what I expected. Just an average issue. This is probably an initial setup to the next issue. I would have given this issue 3 stars, but I give it 3 and a half stars just because of the artwork.
