The act of treason is the crime that sets an individual towards the most extreme acts against one's nation or sovereign. Treason has also historically been used to identify the act of murder or its attempt of specific social superiors. This can include the murder of a spouse by his partner or that of a master by they're servant. Treason against the king was known as high treason and treason against a lesser superior was petty treason.

As a theme it has been a frequent subject in popular culture in comics. It has been used to add complexity from a lead character or ally by betraying they're ideals and loyalties to the person or group. Hence seeking to also act on the most extreme measures against one's fealty to a superhero team or organization.

A few of the most well known love interests in the pages of comics are in the following list.

    Terra against the Teen Titans.

    Captain Marvel against the Kree.

    Captain America and the Avengers.

Diamondback, Asp, Black Mamba & Sidewinder against the Serpent Society.
