    Tor's origin

Tor goes hunting in the unfamiliar jungle and ends up fighting for his life against a sabre-toothed tiger! While recovering from his wounds he flashes back to the events that have brought him to this place.

Even though Tor is clearly a labor of love for Joe Kubert, it seems like this this issue, which gives the requisite origin story, did not receive as full a treatment as it could have. Some panels are uninspired and greatly deficient in detail.

On the other hand, there are some interesting techniques at play here, such as coloring outside the lines for blood smears and spatters, and foregoing the use of panels for an extended dream sequence.

The issue is something like a cross between Conan (an obvious influence) and Lone Wolf and Cub. While not the high point of the series, it's still an issue you're going to want to read if you want to get the full Tor saga.
