Gardner Fox Superheroifies Things
Last issue's cover would probably have been more appropriate for this issue, as Dracula revives Lenore in this story. Who's Lenore you ask? So would probably anyone who reads this. Never before introduced in the series, she appears to be as close to a 'Bride of Dracula' as we're going to get.
But it's the way she's introduced that rankles me. Dracula seems to have kept her in a bottle somehow and now freed her - it's almost as if we're missing an issue or something. There are other parts where things seem disjointed here. When Dracula travels through time (yes, it's a time travel story), some of the panels at his destination seem to be in the wrong order.
I can only attribute this to the new (as of this issue) writer, Gardner Fox. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Fox, he is largely responsible for much of the Batman we know and love, and for launching the Silver Age with his work on Flash. But either he was briefed incorrectly on the story-to-date and/or hadn't read the preceding issues. Worse, it seems that he's brought an unwelcome 'superhero dialogue' to the comic.
I hope in the future Tomb of Dracula gets the writing back up to match the high quality of the art.
