This first book was meant as a pilot that set the tone for the series and consists of two separate stories.

    The Ice Queen

Young Thorgal is sentenced to death by the king of the Vikings - Gandalf the Mad who is the father of Aaricia - Thorgals lover. While condemned he is rescued by a mysterious, red-haired sorceress who wants to use Thorgal to revenge, which she has sworn towards Gandalf the Mad.

    The Garden of Eden

Thorgal falls with his horse through a crevice in a gletscher with a magical valley below. It is inhabited by three sisters who tell them that time moves at a different pace there and that he's been there for a year already. Not deterred he tries to find a way out.
