I think you misunderstood Freyja's quotes read it again, she never said the Phoenix was Thor's mother, she knew Gaea is notice she called Gaea's name first, she only grouped Phoenix's name with Gaea because she was claiming Thor to be her child. But in the latest issue she blatantly called Gaea and Gaea's name alone.

I enjoyed todays issue. Gave Odin some respect.

This issue was absolutely amazing, finally a proper interaction between Thor & Odin like the good old days, a loving and caring father, guiding his son, how I missed this Odin, even if it was in a flashback it was so nice to see, what an opening for this issue.

The rest of the issue was just as great, Thor being a massive badass, withstanding the heat of a billion suns and making lightning so powerful the thunder is heard accross the galaxy.

Oh, not to mention, Mjolnir finally fixed of all the nonsense retcons, although that last page may imply there's something still there, but at least the mess that Aaron made is now cleaned up.

I think it was implied he's talking to him through the hammer, with the foreshadowing earlier in the issue about the souls of those who forged or used Mjolnir being inside it and talking to the wielder.

There you have it, no more sentient storm and Odin-Force transferred to the hammer, i am not saying the execution was perfect, but honestly was there a better outcome than this one?

Obviously that the described, will be further explored and worked, but its a very solid basis for a more powerful Mjolnir that can allow an All Father Thor to be as powerful, but different from past interpretations and Odin himself, and more importantly have Odin in the worthiness enchantment equation.

I know very few things from Thor's next movie, perhaps there will be some kind of temporary synergy regarding the hammer appearance (or not since the next issue its a celebration issue and normally this issues do present 2.0 stuff), honestly i could care less for the movie, so i am fine with that synergy, as long as Jane stays out of the new Mjolnir story in the comics, its about Thor and Odin now... Her sentient storm bff is gone... RIP...

I know that a lot of You Thor fans never really connected much with Angela, well i liked her since the beginning more so in Gillen's pen, so it was nice to have her in such a pivotal role.

But yeah if Cates did put Thor back on track, and usually doesn't forget about Thor's supporting characters, including Sif, i hope that in the future there is actually an arc for her, and much more, we already had Magni in the canon, now its obviously time for we eventually get to Thor's and Sif's daughter...

Now that i was enjoying Thor comics again, i have to take a break, hopefully its a short break, in the meanwhile the very best for everyone that loves to read about Thor/Asgard.

Ok Cates , you won you made a good issue and i had a lot of fun in this one (last time he wrote something i liked this much was in guardians of the galaxy)

One aspect of Cates that i quite liked is his emotional/day to day moments. That is where he shines and those where most of my favorite parts of the run. When he is not trying to be eadgy that is.

I've been on a break for nearly 10 years lol. Modern comic book storytelling is godawful and most of the industry's "creators" are creatively bankrupt. Even worse is the Disney-fication of characters/storytelling and the complete lack of editorial discipline.

Odin's soul possessing Mjolnir is just ridiculous. Phoenix apparently being Thor's "real" mother is ridiculous. So many moronic retcons in such a short amount of time is ridiculous.

I wasn't loving the Mjolnir/ god of hammer arc at first but the last two issues really sold me on the concept with it's execution. Curious to see what happens moving forward

Not much come of it for Thor/Asgard, maybe aside from the destruction of rainbow bridge, yet i have a lot questions regarding Mjolnir current powers, some developments seem kinda contradictory, or at least unexplained for now, yet i still like to see Cates having Odin in the role of deciding the fate of who wields the hammer, obviously i dislike the sentient hammer thing, but its something in development and will not end as it is currently, still for who debated that the hammer thing was not about Odin is getting hammered. lol

How Cates is going to fix the hammer, in the comics may translate to live action (similar state) and define Mjolnir for the foreseeable future, so... Should we start to give Cates some ideas? Its has to something GODLY INSANE, right?

Regarding the Phoenix mother plot from the Avengers, did not read it, but for the feed back seems like it end more or less like the Laussa parentage or not really? (some fed back of that end result was appreciated, since like i said, i don't read Jason Aaron comics).

@asgaard: The Phoenix thing was dumb af, basically it was the Phoenix who convinced Gaea to give Odin a chance (because as expected from Aaron, Odin was being a jerk and courting every goddess in existence, literally). Then, when Thor was born, Laufey froze him as soon as he came out of Gaea's womb, so Phoenix had to burn hotter than ever before to melt the ice and save Thor.

Just Aaron's bullshit inconsistency, there is no reason Thor should have Phoenix powers, he was born from Gaea and saved from being frozen to death by Phoenix's fire.

I do agree to an extent but look at the bright side, Gaea is still Thor's mother and he is massively more powerful.

Anyone know why Cates is not writing the current Thor issues?

Donny Cates has withdrawn from his major Marvel Comics projects of late, with Al Ewing and then Torunn Grønbekk stepping up to write Thor and Ryan Ottley taking over the writing of Hulk as well as drawing the book.

Only news I could find on the subject no reasons are given though.

The guest writer will only be writing seven issues as for Donny he's dealing with some personal stuff at the moment but he'll be back.
