If you haven't read this week's ORIGINAL SIN #7, there will be some tiny spoilers. It shouldn't be too much of a spoiler because when Marvel announced a female Thor was coming, back in July, it was also mentioned something happens to make Thor unworthy of Mjolnir.

The question is, what makes him unworthy?

In ORIGINAL SIN #7, the Avengers are fighting the true Nick Fury. They're not fully sure why he's now old or what his involvement in the death of the Watcher is but they're in full force to stop whatever he's doing. As Thor approaches Fury to take him out, Nick whispers something to Thor.

    No Caption Provided

You can barely see what Nick said. Looks like Thor was even caught off guard.

    No Caption Provided

What did he say, indeed? That's the big question. We've been wondering what Thor will do to become unworthy. It looks like maybe he already has done something. Is this something he just wasn't aware of? It's a little odd that if he committed some unworthy act, he shouldn't be able to wield Mjolnir. More likely he's done something that's caused a chain reaction and the final result was something really bad. Hearing about it is what made the Mjolnir unworthy clause kick in.

Still, if he did something, knowingly or unknowingly, you would think that'd become a factor, immediately. The result of this whisper was Thor being unable to lift the hammer.

    No Caption Provided

With all of this, we still don't know what was said. I actually read this issue on my iPad after getting it through the Marvel app. So of course I tried zooming in as much as I could.

    No Caption Provided

It almost looks like you can make out what was being said. Did they actually letter the big secret and then fuzz it out a little? Or is this just some gibberish to fool those of us that try to zoom in like this?

Let's hear from all of you. What do you think Thor did that made him unworthy? What did Fury whisper? I'm sure it wasn't that he left the water running during a drought on Asgard. What could Thor have done, without realizing it, that made him unworthy? Did he have to be aware of the act or was he aware and just kept it as his dark little secret?

    First.

I was going to make a "because comics are too dark now and the heroes aren't heroes anymore" joke, but that would be too obvious. And, coming from me, repetitive.

This is so laughable and pathetic. I haven't commented on this site in years and have rarely visited but I felt an urge to now. Damn Marvel...no wonder I stopped reading. Looks like things are just getting worse.

I haven't kept up with any Thor books so I haven't the faintest idea. Maybe he brought up how he killed his own undead grandfather which was the last time that Mjolnir broke for him I think. Either that or something about him killing or dooming innocence without knowing it. Bah this upcoming female Thor book feels a lot more contrived because of what happens in this issue. A whisper makes him unworthy? I feel like Marvel could do better.

What made Thor unworthy was Jason Aaron stupid writing, to force the identity theft, aka female that never will be Thor, because its not a mantle it s his birth name, and a old Norse male name, that marvel didn t created, only copy from Norse Mythology.

Marvel is only is interested in making headlines, disrespecting Thor and his past of honer, bravery and the Valhalla spirit, and by making this, it s disrespecting Thor long time fans.

So, just so I get this straight, after all this time, with Mjolnir working just fine and deeming him worthy all Nick had to do was whisper some BS in his ear? It was almost as if Marvel forgot Mjolnir has deemed him unworthy based on things it didn't see at the time before. This would bring an interesting weakness to him though. I mean just think about it, Thor is worthy again and starts laying down some Hammer-time and one of the villains, let say Loki because he's popular, just goes, "Hey Thor, you remember that time at summer camp when you and Baldr-" Boom no more hammer.

Yeah comics should be super light and fun like in the 70's and 80's. Remember that fun time when:

Cyclops cheated on his wife which resulted in her selling her soul to a demon and killing herself via a shard of glass to her side.

The X-men got caught by cyborgs in Australia and beat Wolverine's ass so bad that they crucified him.

Or how about when the Joker beat Robin to death with a crowbar before blowing up his corpse.

Also: Every Frank Miller Daredevil issue.

Yeah, things need to get back to the lighter days of comics.

Since Aaron has been following Thor in three different time periods in the series, my guess is that it's some as yet unseen event that future Thor does in the past, which when he finds out about makes him unworthy.

@t_aesir: Typically I kind of hate Thor, as my definitive version has always been the classic mythological Thor. I must admit, reading Aaron's take on Thor has made me really appreciate the hero and I have come to accept that like all things this version of Thor cannot take away my enjoyment of the old classic versions. I believe in Marvelverse Thor is both a title and his name, only so because of the way Odin enchanted his hammer. I look forward to female Thor and everything that comes after. Aaron will still be writing so I am on board.

Now Thor as an Avenger......I dunno why, I just can't read him. I prefer him in his own book.

Current arc of Avengers takes place after Original Sin. In which Thor has Mjolnir. Captain America is also young so it takes place before events in Captain America. In the latest issue of Captain America, Thor has Mjonir and captain america is a old man.

Also if you believe that after all thor has done over the years he can suddenly become unworthy by a few words then your pretty stupid.

    My Guess last minute changes.

Marketing Execs at marvel had another one marvel famous "writers retreats" and told them they need a new gimmick to boast sales at the point of price rise. Marvel Marketing teams agree that using Diversity as gimmick to boast sales before reverting back to status quo in 2015. Both the introduction of Diversity and then subsequent replacement cause mass media attention which causes short term boast in sale from consumer who don't read comics but think this will be a big moment therefore have collectable value. as result writers are forced to make last minute additions/changes to their original story.

It really sad that Marvel uses diversity as gimmick to boast sales, its like saying to minority and woman "the only thing we think your good for is boast sales and getting mass media attention". Marvel has given characters like Storm, War Machine, Captain Marvel (Well they used to but now they have given up) and She-Hulk, little to no marketing. I like most readers want to see greater diversity but using Diversity as "short term replacements" is not the way to go about.

It's not 100% of Thor's power that comes from the hammer anyway. Control over lightening, god blasts, magic, flight and the like, sure (even then, hasn't he flown and controlled the weather without?). But his vast strength & durability are all his by virtue of being the Son of Odin ...

Anyway, this has happened before so whatever. This time it is a woman carrying the mantle. I agree with other posters though. She ain't Thor just cuz she wields the hammer. That's just silly.

Falcon is not Steve Rogers just because he carries the shield. Hokey stuff.
