New Thor Action Figures Reveal Frost Giants?
Aint-It-Cool News recently reported that these three action figures for the upcoming movie Thor have appeared on Ebay for sale. Odin is on the left, and Loki is on the right, but in the middle is what appears to be a Frost Giant. Odin and Loki have been confirmed as characters in the film, but up until this picture was released, the Frost Giant was not.
Since the release of this picture, many people are speculating the role of the Frost Giant in the upcoming film. If you know anything about Thor, you know Frost Giants and Asgardians have a rich history of beating the snot out of each other, so expect to see that, as well as some trickery on the part of Loki.
As for the action figures themselves, they look pretty decent, except for the Frost Giant who reminds me way too much of Avatar. Hopefully, these figures will be high quality and not have 10 different Thor figures, which always bogs down any movie-related figure. If you don't believe me, head to a Target or Walmart and check out all the Iron Man 2 figures still for sale. Count the Iron Man variants... I dare you. Hopefully, we'll get maybe two different Thor figures, the rest of the cast, and maybe a few Frost Giant variations, so you can have the Asgardians battle it out with them. Marvel's action figures have been so-so over the years, but their movie-related ones seem to be top-notch. Hopefully, we'll get the same quality in the Thor line. And while the Ebay auction for the figures seems to be open, keep your eyes out. Once one hits the market, there's bound to be a few more in the next couple of days. What do you guys think of the figures? Will the Frost Giants have an important role in this film?
I thought they were in the trailer (or at least heavily hinted at) I think in the movie, they will be used to build Thor as a heavy and powerful being, once he picks up the Hammer. Then, Destroyer can be established as a threat by beating up on Thor. So at that stage, its not like we view Thor as being a weak character. OR, the opposite maybe. Thor trades off on Destroyer and Loki and Frost Giants set the stage for the big finale.
They look awesome of course too! I probably won't buy em though.
" Aren't they a little small on scale to be "giants"? "Loki's a giant too, so I guess they come in all sizes.
" huh...Were they as AVATAR-blue originally? Shouldn't they be a bit more white/grey-sh, no? "Look a little closer, it's a metallic ice blue. Suddle difference, but still.
" @Green Skin: Come on! It's not a real difference~ It's a little detail to avoic copyright infregement. XD And I'm guessing these blue giants will be CGi huge human-like figures too. -sigh- "Oh I completely agree they look like they belong in Avatar. I'm just saying they were going for an Ice blue look.
When auctions like this pop up for action figures on ebay way before they hit store shelves, 100 times out of 100 they've been stolen from the factory in China. And not by some poor assembly line worker making 10 cents a day or anything, but by one of the bosses looking to score a little extra off of silly Americans. Don't buy stolen toys directly from China; when you do, the communists win. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. ;)
Anyway, those look okay. Nothing special, but not bad. And if that's Colm Feore as a frost giant, it's very CGI dependent because he's only average height. I'm not really seeing Avatar except for the fact that it's blue.

Anyway the whole "Avatar" feel we get is because they will look probably similar on screen, with being tall, CGi and blue. and the same kind of blueness.
Pllus the actual monsters its based on don't really look that way, I guess the movie's creature designer was a bit inspired by it to adapt those. Thus the "Come on!"
'nuff said!

" Ymir (who is a frost giant) is listed in the credits being played by someone called Colm Feore. "
Wow, I didn't know Colm Feore was in this movie! He was suitably villainous as the Lord Marshal in Riddick. The Thor movie is sounding better and better!
