    Asgard Endures

    The Story:

The World Eaters threaten all of Asgard.

    My Thoughts:

Marvel architect Matt Fraction takes the reigns to the Thor series and begins by exploring new horizons. He comes up with an interesting theme. A single question being; if Asgard is here on Earth, what happens to where Asgard once was? Enter the World Eaters.

By now it shouldn't be considered a spoiler to say that Odin comes back within this story. If you haven't read it I'm sure you've at least heard that much about it. He certainly comes back in a big way. Matt Fraction also brings back Loki. His return was sudden as he just recently perished during the events of Siege. Supposedly he was brought back for the future story in the making.

One of the good qualities about this story was the characterizations for all characters apart of the story. King Balder was shown in a new light. One that certainly shocked me. The humor was there as well especially with Volstagg (no surprise) as he claimed to be Asgard's most brilliant scientific mind.

I enjoyed issue #620.1 a lot for being a self-contained issue and what Marvel considers to be a good jumping on point. Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett write the issue which centers around an Asgardian feast that the Grey Gargoyle crashes in hopes of stealing the Apple Of Idunn. Artist Mark Brooks really shines in this issue with his magnificent artwork. I'd definitely love to see him as a regular artist on a Thor series some time.

The artwork is by Pasqual Ferry who has a unique style I've been a fan of. I would never have imagined him being an artist for a series like this but he brings refreshing spin to it. I won't say he's the best artist to ever work on Thor but he brought his own perspective to it and delivered some great quality artwork. The colours were really impressive. I can't express enough who great they were, you really have to see for yourself.

This was a nice way to begin the Heroic Age for Thor. It fit in without he theme Marvel was going for all around in all their series while also bringing back all the members of Thor's family. It's basically the stepping stones for the future direction Fraction plans on taking Thor. I'd recommend reading this if you're into Thor. If you've never read a Thor comic this is not the ideal places to begin. It could be rather confusing for you.

    Rating: 4/5
