Don't mind me or this giant evil dragon over here...
So the first story arc is rapidly drawing to a close here.
As usual, the art is mostly above average here, but the story... well...
The issue starts out pretty good with Loki showing himself finally, and in a great bit of characterization, he's actually on Thor's side!
Kudos to the writer for giving us a Loki character that is surprisingly multidimensional.
But then it drops down a peg as Thor faces a stone giant and defeats it by pinning it to a stump with a tiny sword (and the massive chain the thing was inexplicably leashed with), and then smiting this enormous mass of stone with a fairly puny looking tree branch, and finishing with the line:
Well fought Leviathan. That was truly a battle to be sung about.
No, Thor, really, it wasn’t.
The story gets good again with a clever twist as Thor is about to achieve the final step in the quest, only to be foiled.
From there we rush back to Asgard, which is currently under attack, and the great art there is the highlight of this issue.
But somehow the massive attack on Asgard takes only 4 pages to rebuff before the gods are victorious (against some generic Orc-like foes).
But then comes the biggest question of this issue. Why is nobody paying attention to Karnilla (who launched the attack in the first place) as she stands beside her unobtrusive 40 foot dragon at the end of the battle???
Anachronisms du jour: Leviathan the stone giant sporting the trendy left side lip piercing (or piercings depending on the panel).
