Odds are, you’ve probably heard that Megan Fox won’t be returning for TRANSFORMERS 3. There’s certainly a lot of gossip as to why that’s happened on insider sites like Deadline, but it’s not really my place to speculate. I’ll leave that up to you. The official stated facts are that Shia LeBouff’s “Sam Witwicky” character will be getting a new love interest for the third go-round with those machines that're more than meets the eye. Screenwriter Ehren Kruger says that the change “makes sense for the story.”
Of course, as soon as any role’s vacant in a major series like this, the rumor mill starts grinding and fans and pundits alike start running their fantasy casting call. In this case, it seems like literally every young actress is being considered. Zoe Saldana, Ashley Greene and Amber Heard’s names have been showing up the most, on sites like Film School Rejects.The only site that seems to have an inside scoop about this, however, is the Wrap, which claims that Gemma Arterton is the leader in a group contenders consisting mainly of models. Arterton’s already got something of a pedigree for acting in this kind of tent pole, big budget blockbuster. She was one of James Bond’s ladies, Strawberry Fields, in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, and, just recently, Io in CLASH OF THE TITANS. Audiences will also be seeing her in a couple weeks, as the Princess in the PRINCE OF PERSIA. Actually, that isn't something of pedigree... that's a track record.
I suppose the question, right now, is who would you Comic Vine maniacs want to replace Fox in movie number three? Arterton would be swell, in my book, though I suppose I should be embarrassed to admit I was wondering more if Unicron would show up.
