One year after the events of The Transformers: The Movie, the leaderless Decepticons have set up base on the planet Charr, their Energon stores depleted and their ambition for conquest lost. Disgusted by this, Cyclonus sets out to search for the missing Galvatron. On a faraway planet Rodimus Prime officiates the First Galactic Olympics, but chaos erupts when the Olympic Torch explodes in an act of sabotage and Kup, Ultra Magnus, and Spike are kidnapped amidst the commotion. Following a lead on Earth, Blaster and Outback discover the location of Charr, allowing Rodimus and Grimlock to head there to look for their missing comrades.
