Still Savage
The Good: I really like the way Hawkman's not actually on this cover, just Morphicus clutching Hawkman's empty helmet. It's a nice semi-haunting kind of image that builds Morpicus up as a deadly foe.
The action is brutal and chaotic. Reminds me a lot of God of War. That's a GREAT idea for a character like Hawkman.
Philip Tan's artwork is getting back to his older style a bit. He's found a much better balance between realistic and surreall that works much better.
The background info we get aside from any other characters about the history of Morphicus and some stuff from space is kind of neat plot twist. Suddenly things are much bigger and more complex than they seemed.
The Bad: So.... why did Hawkman automatically assume the police were after him? He's barely got a semblance of a reason to be afraid of them, so he just bolts. It's meant to show off his new powers, but his logic there is unbelievably stupid.
Carter's attempts to keep his identity a secret are kind of pathetic.
Not a lot really happens this issue. Morphicus just kind of stops fighting Hawkman for a fairly shallow reason.
There was barely any indication last issue that the lab was actually in the city, so when the battle is suddenly obviously in the city I felt like I missed something.
In Conclusion: 3.5/5
After a spectacular first issue, things kind of slow a bit here. Morphicus gets a bit of a boost in intrigue, but looses a lot of 'prescence' when he leaves Hawkman behind. Carter's daily life stuff isn't very well handled this issue for the most part, and some of the issue feels a bit lost in a fog. Things are still awesome and badass, and I'm appreciating Hawkman a lot more than I ever have, but this issue was kind of a lag.
