Night Man feels guilt and responsibility over the death of Ginger Robinson at the hands of Deathmask. He patrols the streets of San Francisco where he telepathically senses a crime. He comes across a man called Mangle, a severely disfigured man in an exoskeleton, trying to kidnap a young boy. Night Man is able to repel the attack and Mangle makes his escape while Night Man brings the boy back to his home. Night Man picked up some clues about Mangle, mostly about his hate for NuWare, and decides to visit the president of NuWare, J.D. Hunt, for answers. J.D. Hunt does not offer any information but Night Man learns that his son, Guy Hunt, is somehow involved with Mangle. Night Man warns Guy and learns that Mangle was Guy's former history tutor and that Mangle may be in a specific location. Night Man goes to the location to fight him but he again escapes and Night Man learns that there's more to this situation than he's been told.
