dread-pirate-rob's The New Adventures of Superboy #54 - The Dumbbell That Saved The Earth! review

A disappointing ending to some wonderful years

After reading almost every single (Clark Kent) Superboy story, from more fun comics to the Legion, this was such a disappointing ending. So many ongoing arcs left unanswered, so many characters that would never be seen again in Clark's Superman years that failed to get a proper sendoff, it's like they weren't even told the book was ending. I can't even find any evidence of the Supergirl crossover advertised at the end of the story.

Context aside, the story itself is basic. That was part of this series' charm, it was recreating the style of the silver age with freak of the week scenarios and low stakes, but for the conclusion of a book you expect something with a little more oomf. The villains are forgettable, I'm not sure if I remember learning a single name of anyone in the Superboy Revenge Squad.

Honestly, the story makes me wish I stopped at issue 51.
